Amber Trip Fashion Show – A Trip from Fashion to Art and Back

Jewellery exhibition Amber Trip was closed by the Saturday exclusive clothing and jewellery fashion festival Amber Trip Fashion Show. Jewellery and clothing designers created collections specially for this show in order to demonstrate the idea of the integrity of clothing and jewellery. This year, Lithuanian and Polish designers and jewellers presented impressive clothing and jewellery collections. Designers demonstrated creativity of their thought, their mastery and original ideas reflected in their works. We had the opportunity to witness presentations of unique works, exceptional designs and marvellous collections.

Seven Lithuanian and Polish designers’ collections were presented at the Amber Trip Fashion Show. During the presentation of these collections the prevailing materials included linen, wool, silk, amber, silver, plastics, and other. Artists proved that even most unusual materials can be combined and result in beautiful works of art. The combination of various materials and products reflected each designer’s inner world, which is perceived differently by each individual.

The first collection was presented by young designers Eva Balul and Viktoria Šopagaitė. Their clothing and jewellery combination consisted from light romantic dresses and big glowing jewellery articles, which together resulted in an interesting and impressive collection called “Flirt”. “Flirting makes our hearts beat stronger and our eyes shine brighter – flirting leaves nobody ignorant no matter how old or young we are. Beautiful feelings elevate us above our drab existence, add charm to our life and make it colourful. This collection uses elements of male and female clothing – male shirt collars, and sleeves and fasteners are combined with light female dress forms. “It is like a man touching a woman,” the artists described their collection.

Some designs have minimum of male shirt elements, which makes it possible to reveal the gentle femininity through the play of cuttings and forms. Other designs are full of male accents, as if suppressing the female nature and at the same time revealing the strength of relations between a man and a woman. Elegant and at the same time playful dresses are designed for a woman who has not fallen under the impact male-dominated world and has not become phallocratic; a woman, who continues enjoying life, dreaming, flirting, falling in love; a feminine, tender and stylish woman. The collection is supplemented with massive and bright jewellery articles adding more flirting colours and thus ensuring the woman wearing them is not left unnoticed.

During the presentation of designer Vilija Poškienė’s collection, we had the opportunity to see beautiful girls from a popular group “69 danguje”, who presented the collection “Rose Panther”. “Rose Panther” is a collection with a number of accessories, the production of which required a lot of manual work and which play an important role in the collection. The dominating colours are black-rose and rose-black. The Rose Panther is glowing with movement and mood characteristic for an elegant panther. By manipulating accessories the artist highlighted the unique inventiveness of female nature. The role of the rose panther can be multicoloured, depending on the environment and the mood.

The collection “Earth Speaking” was presented by designer Aistė Anaitė and shoe designer Indrė Diržienė. “Earth Speaking” perfectly reflected the essence of the collection, which had been created from calm and harmonious natural colours. Designer Aistė Anaitė: “Through the language of jewellery and clothing we express what we hear, see and feel by using natural materials”. The presentation of collection revealed femininity and lightness. The naturalness and romance will always remain in people no matter what tendencies fashion trends would dictate. The models decorously demonstrated the designer’s works, which were exceptional due to their cosiness, uniqueness and interesting cloth cutting and fabrication.

Collection “Jūratė’s Tales” by designers Svajūnas Udrys and Rasa Mekuškaitė.

This collection was inspired by the ancient Baltic traditions about the romantic Jūratė and Kastytis’ love story created by Lithuanian bard Maironis. Beads, bracelets and earrings from the pieces of the broken amber castle are joint together by a silver-plated or copper wire. An exceptional ring on Jūratė’s finger is the symbol of eternal love. She seduces Kastytis into the blue abyss by showing herself in white sea foam. These colours prevail in Lithuanian maid Jūratė’s natural linen clothing. Delicately chosen clothes reflect her seductive nature.

Author Liubovė Čaplikienė presented a collection called “Intro” dedicated to women who know their worth and are not afraid of looking for and rediscovering their style; to women who are not only stylish but also have a sense of humour.

“Sometimes we want our life to be easier. We want to feel like a bird, like a feather carried by the wind. We seek new colours and passion, a fresh spring wind puff. We want to create the other “us” with a few light strokes and touches. It seems very simple,” Liubovė Čaplikienė says. Gracefully playing with colours and forms and combining various materials, the designer is searching for this magic stroke or a brushstroke conveying the real essence. With it, more than just a jewellery article is created. It is like a magic mirror where you can see yourself the way you are or they way you want to be. And it does seem simple – as a bird feather stroke.

Collection “Aquarius and Speed” by Polish designers Tomasz Szupienko and Slawomir Chmielewski. A motorcycle on the stage made this collection exceptional. The designers created the collection combining speed and tranquillity drive and tenderness, massive jewellery and soft fabric clothing.

Designer Tomasz Szupienko: I have been creating jewellery since I was 20 years old and I have always aspired to create unique artistic jewellery articles by combining various materials: amber, silver, gold, wood, leather, natural minerals, ceramics, linen and felt. When creating jewellery I combine traditions and modernism. Design variety and unconventional technique suits everybody’s taste”.

Designer Slawomir Chmielewski: “I specialise in wood, shell and amber cutting.” Each peace is individually cut and manufactured manually.

Beautifully cut faces framed in shells and wood seem to be ancient but at the same time reflect our epoch.

These designers have occupied the Polish market with their untraditional and exceptional jewellery articles. Their peculiar style had a great impact on the viewer’s appreciation.

Collection “Three in One” was presented by clothing designer Livija Daugirdaitė – the author of the clothing collection, the artist Marytė Dominaitė Gurevičienė – the author of jewellery articles with lilies and rues prevailing, and designer Rūta Rimšelienė – the author of unique hand made sandals. Designer Livija Daugirdaitė presents a silvery black and grey occasional dress, which was created for Miss Lithuania 2008 Gabrielė Martirosianaitė to wear it during the final competition of “Miss World 2008”. A long sophisticated design mermaid-shaped dress with a tail, made of glossy knitted fabric decorated with dark grey brocade, beads and spangles. The handmade sandals from designer Rūta Rimšelienė’s collection and earrings by Marytė Dominaitė (Gurevičienė) are a part of this set.
